According to the NCAA Sports Sponsorship and Participation Rates Report, men have the highest odds of continuing to play Lacrosse from High School to College 14.4% (1 out of 7) and the 2nd highest odds for women  (see charts below).  This is an increase from a few years ago where it was 1 in 8.  Three percent of high school players continue on to play Division 1 with over 70 D1 men’s programs and 115 D1 women’s programs.

Men’s college lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the country.  According to NCSA College Recruiting “This growth in popularity has led to an increase in roster size over the years, which has a significant impact on student-athletes’ scholarship chances.”

As of Summer 2024, the NCAA has increased the D1 Men's Lacrosse scholarships limit from 12.6 per team to 48 per team.  While not all teams will be able to increase their limit due to federal Title IX law, we suspect that the conversion rate of high school to college players will increase over the next 5-10 years.

Santa Cruz County Lacrosse Association has been instrumental in building awareness of lacrosse both at the youth level and with our local high schools.  As of 2024, most Santa Cruz county high schools have teams both for boys and girls.  We continue to sponsor and work with local high schools so that your Warrior players have options beyond the youth level.

Ultimately, your child should pursue a sport or activity that they are passionate about, but having this information might help that tiger parent influence.
